About

J. Winsor Baker, aka, Kim, began building yachts in 1985. His line of expertise has been in the electronic and electrical fields. He founded a consulting business in 2006 to better serve the needs of clients along coastal Maine, and beyond.

Ensuring that clientele receives the highest quality services is the top priority. Kim has been accredited by the National Marine Electronics Association and certified by all the major marine electronics manufacturers. He remains current, in a changing and evolving industry, through continuing education and seminars, as well as maintaining professional affiliations & associations.

As the electronics supervisor for a custom boatbuilder for over a decade, Kim was intimately involved with a variety of challenging navigation and communication projects. He has lead the way on countless electronics and electrical projects along the Maine Coast, first starting in the Mount Desert area during the late 80s.

Introduction to leading edge techniques began with new 12 Meter yachts, as well as several maxi racer/cruisers. He obtained his captain’s license and FCC license in Palm Beach while aboard a custom 90 yachtfisherman. His yacht building career continued with construction of Hinckley, Cape Dory, and Lyman-Morse yachts. It is ongoing with the building of wooden and composite yachts along Penobscot Bay.

Kim enjoyed racing many one designs in New England and Mid-Atlantic waters and was director of the bi-collegiate sailing program at Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges. He has travelled worldwide since youth; living from Hawaii to the Caribbean, from Japan to the Azores, and from Alaska to the Bahamas. Many of Kim’s formative years were spent in the Philadelphia area. He is a graduate of Haverford College, The Tatnall School, and the St. Michael’s School in Newport.
